November 9th, 2008
Location: Ringwood, east of Melbourne (very east of Melbourne, although the new tollway apparently makes it 20 minutes in to the city (when the traffic is light, so that'll be about 60-80 minutes at peak hour, I'd imagine ... )).
Weather: Warrrrrm. 27°C today, heading for similar tomorrow, and the next day, and a bit warmer after that (32ish or so), before a cool change comes through taking it back to 22°C or so with a few showers.
Situation: We appear to have just about bought a car. Wheee ! (Errr, it appears to be another Scenic. Funny how that happened :-) )
Plans: Get phone working (the Vodafone instant-prepaid-SIM pack failed at the first hurdle in activation, even worse than rwrylsin's ... ). Finish car buying, assuming no last-minute hitches. Buy bicycles. Join RACV. Set up joint bank account for rwrylsin and I. Find a job. Support rwrylsin on her second interview for a job on Wednesday morning. Relax. Catch up with people, at some point.
Current Mood: calm
You sound very organised!
It's just an illusion, probably because I'm caught in the fringes of Whirlwind rwrylsin
I can get your Vodafone SIM working, just call the call centre and ask to Speak to Matt or Fabian.
There's a lot of people there who can't help and only a few who can due to high turnover. Also, all Telcos can have activation issues and Vodafone's usually seem to be something wrong with updates in Siebel, the software they use. The Prepaid Care staff can only submit extra requests, sadly. They can fix broken registrations if you get someone like Rebecca to do it.
Amazingly, I called 1555 and spoke to "Lara" (ie the automatic registration thingy), and though it was slightly time-consuming, it seems to have worked and let me move on to registering and so forth. Of course, I had some problems with the vodafone.com.au site earlier tonight (took a few tries to load the "My Account" page properly), but I'll try again tomorrow ...
And don't get me started on the vodafone.com.au site... the number of times I haven't been able to pay my bill on time due to their site being broken (often in new and creative ways) is not funny. That's also when you realise that their fault reporting system seems to be even more broken than their regular web site.
Don't worry about the activation though - you'll Very Soon get a call from a very polite representative with a distinctive accent calling you. Repeatedly. /sigh
Can you tell I'm not entirely thrilled with their service?
(I've really developed an appreciation for the per-contact ringtone feature and the "Silence" ringtone though... :) )
You need to wait for registration to go through before you can access My Account, it'll usually be the next business day if you called after 4 PM.
Did you buy your Scenic from Car City?
It being in Ringwood and all makes it the logical place to go, but I wondered whether you were as scarred by their years of late night ads and tacky jingles as I am.
Ah, there we have the advantage of being out of the country for over 4 years - I had mostly forgotten the ads and annoyingness ... although now that you mention them they spring back into my mind. Thanks a lot :-)
Knowing what you want to do is the first step to getting it done! Looks like you're on a role with all the logistical and fun stuff.
Be careful once you relax, though. If you relax too far, it's hard to get back in the zone which you're oh-so-obviously cruising in!
Mmmm. Australia. It sounds so pretty. Espeically with that 27 degree weather. My new home in Seattle is way, way colder than that.
