Fencing news

In case you missed the extensive media coverage (ha !), some Australians are in Cuba currently taking part in the World Fencing Championships.

Results :
Jo Halls came 58th in the women's foil (68 competitors).
In women's epee, Amber Parkinson came 81st, and Evelyn Halls 29th (out of 120).
And in men's epee, Ross Austen 100th, Nick Heffernan 54th, and Seamus Robinson 12th !
(I'm not sure, but I suspect that would be one of the highest finishes by an Australian male epeeist at a World Championships ... )

Meanwhile, Frank Bartolillo is in the final 64 of the men's foil, which is still in progress. We don't seem to have had any Aussies in the men's or women's sabre, but that's not such a great surprise - we don't have much of a sabre tradition here.

(should I mention that I train at the same club as all of the epeeists above ? Oh wait, I just did :-> VRI is obviously the place to be ... )
