|11:30 am - Fencing year in review ...|
So, fencing is done for the year (competition-wise, at least).
Here's how the year went :
|Competition ||Date ||No. entries||Place|
|Scottish Open ||Jan 07 ||59 ||1 |
|Slough ||Feb 07 ||122 ||15 |
|Stockholm ||Feb 07 ||100 ||71 |
|Edinburgh International ||Mar 07 ||38 ||22 |
|Birmingham ||Apr 07 ||152 ||51 |
|Glasgow ||Apr 07 ||55 ||12 |
|Scottish Champs ||Jun 07 ||16 ||5 |
|Doric Open ||Jul 07 ||34 ||3 |
|Highland Open ||Sep 07 ||29 ||16 |
|Welsh Open ||Nov 07 ||188 ||72 |
|Miller-Hallett Open ||Nov 07 ||122 ||41 |
|Irish Open ||Dec 07 ||41 ||3 |
Notable high points being the Scottish Open, of course - my first "proper" competition win (the previous was a B grade in Victoria many years ago), and the Irish Open last weekend (would have been really cool to start and finish the year with wins, but it wasn't quite to be).
Apart from that, a couple of "blah" performances, a few reasonable ones, and a couple of unlucky draws (e.g. at Stockholm, I was 68th seed into the DE - meaning I was facing the 61st seed. Normally, you'd expect someone around the same level with those seedings, but I got the second-highest-ranked fencer in the tournament, who'd apparently been having a slow start to the day).
I'm now waiting to see if the last couple of results will give me enough points to move into the top 50 in the British rankings for the first time (I've been as high as 51st (well, technically 50.5th, because overseas fencers don't actually get a ranking position, even though we get included in the ranking list based on points attained)).
Roll on 2008 !
Current Mood: happy
That sounds like a brilliant year - well done!
