Making a noise ...

Oh yeah, I remember now, I can write here as well as read !

So, this was going to be the "one month of flute playing" update, except it's now been more like 6 or 7 weeks. Oops.

Anyway, it's going well ! I've been practicing roughly every two or three days, and it's all coming back to me.

I was worried at first that maybe there was something not quite right with the flute, because the third octave range was sounding pretty bad, and hard to even get the notes out sometimes ... but no, that was just me. It's sounding much better now, although still some way to go :)

Of course, I'm not practicing very efficiently - if I had a definite plan to play particular pieces (maybe even in front of other people ! Although that's pretty unlikely), I'd focus on those pieces and work on the difficult bits and all that.

Instead, I'm doing some random work on scales, then skipping from piece to piece depending on what I feel like at the time. The only other issue I have is the that flute repertoire is too "nice" ... sometimes I want to belt out some flute-heavy-metal or flute-hardcore-techno, and that's not what people write for it, alas.

Still, it's been fun, and I'm definitely looking to buy myself a flute some time in the near future (the one I'm currently using is a student rental flute, a fairly basic model).
