|08:59 pm - Tinkering ...|
Today's tinkering (at work, no less) gave me a Ruby script using Sinatra to create a mini-web-application thingy, and win32ole to connect to our defect-tracking system, so that from another Ruby script, I can send an HTTP request to the app and get back details of any of the defects in the system.
... Ruby (and the surrounding ecosystem) is kinda cool.
More tinkering to follow, using Rails ...
(the defect-tracking system is not so cool - there doesn't seem to be any way other than the Windows-y API to query stuff on it, hence the Sinatra app above runs on a Windows machine, so that I can send requests from our Unix machines (where all the actual work gets done) to the defect system. And we won't mention the 15-minute timeout on the defect system web app interface ...)
