|10:18 pm - Ooooh, somewhere warm ...|
In Germany, oddly enough.
(still quite cool here, when we went shopping yesterday afternoon around 4ish, we had to defrost the car, and a bottle of water which had been sitting inside the car for a few days was mostly frozen. Still no snow. You'll hear all about it if/when there is :-> )
I've been quiet on LJ recently, for no particularly good reason. Not much to say, I guess. I'm starting to think that to really enjoy a social life here, a) I'll have to start drinking beer (I've had ... less than a litre of beer in my life), and b) get used to coming home from a smoky pub with clothes smelling of ... smoke ! (ewwww).
Current Mood: calm

In Germany, oddly enough.
This was on my list of things to photograph and post about one day. I've seen the hanger off in the distance from the train, on the way to Cottbus. Missed the gala opening which was on TV here the other night. I suspect it'll be more of a success than the cargo-lifter airships which were supposed to be based here.
Hello Fellow Near-Berliner!
If you're interested in the same sorts of things as David is (in a gaming, card-playing sense), please contact me. I've been living in Potsdam since July and would like to make more friends locally. If you can say that Cottbus is local to Potsdam...
(for the Aussies, they're at different ends of the RE train lines)

Actually, ich bin ein echter Berliner (though not of the Pfannkuchen variety); I live near Koepenick, still within the city limits.
We should find a way to catch up in person...
Cool! I have no idea where Koepenick is, but if you'd like to catch up in person, we could meet under the clocks at Alexanderplatz (a very Ossie place to meet) or at the Irish pub at Hackesher Markt Bhf or somewhere else that suits you better. Just let me know. I've got the same username on gmail as I have here...

Of course the original was in japan ...
There is hope - there are people in the uk (though very few) who don't require gallons of beer to get through life and actually are interested in interesting things. And besides, isn't scotland introducing a smoking ban anyway?
Perhaps you'll meet more at WorldCon? (ok, its a bit long to wait, but otoh, my entire first two years were pretty empty on social scene - I got to read a lot of books and started learning welsh)
Yup, the smoking ban is due in 2006. Roll on 2006, I say !
(and in the meantime, I guess we can learn some Swedish, so we can go and meet Lisa's rellies (in Sweden, of course))
(and the fencers seem to be reasonable people to hang around with ... )
We saw this first advertised in October and my immediate response was "who on Earth would want to go to That??" while Christine's was
"Wow!! Isn't that cool!! Let's go! Whendoesitopen,howmuchdoesitcost.... !!"
So, we're going and I'm gonna enjoy it, dammit.
I just shudder to think what the heating costs, more in terms of pollutants than money. *shudder*
