|02:12 am - Books !|
I don't read nearly as many books these days as I used to (although now at least I have commuting time to kill, even if it is only 30 minutes a day or so).
Still, I've just finished Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, which I've seen recommended in many places.
My first reaction is almost completely emotional - I really strongly dislike the ending. Really strongly. A lot. Gah !
I'll see what the rational side of me has to say once I've slept on it. Maybe I'll appreciate it more in the morning ...
Next book : Tooth and Claw , by papersky. Should be much more fun, and isn't a trilogy :)
Current Mood: Dissatisfied.

I just finished T&C. It was fun!
I loved the first two in the triology and have never managed to finidh the third, I'm not really sure why.

Have just started the second book in the Dark materials trilogy today and find it interesting that in the one and a bit books I've read so far I've found Lyra entirely unlikeable. I just hope the conclusion doesn't require me to be on her side emotionally because I don't think that's going to happen.

I don't much like Lyra either - she's admirable, but not likeable, which is damn unusual for a "girl hero".

I hated the ending also. It spoiled what was an otherwise enjoyable series, for me!
However, I've heard people say it was the best stuff they'd ever read, etc etc... ymmv?
I loved book 1, felt so-so about book 2 but just haven't been enthused enough to read book 3. It may sit on my to-read pile for another year yet, at this rate.
Tooth and Claw is lovely, and fun.
